How to Find Your Router Model Number and Default Login
Find your router’s brand and model from the label, the admin page or your devices list, then look up the right login address and password.
Almost every router has the model number, the default login address and often the Wi-Fi and admin passwords on a label on the back or bottom. Knowing the exact model helps you find the right login page and settings.
Steps
- Turn the router around and read the label. Look for Model, Product name or a code such as AX3000 or DIR-615, and for the login address and password.
- If the label is worn off, log in to the router (see the router IP finder). The model usually shows on the status or about page.
- Check the ISP app or account page. Many show the router model under devices or equipment.
- Look at the box or the setup paper, or the receipt or contract for a leased router.
- Search the model on the maker’s website for its manual, and use the default router IP list for the address.
If you still cannot tell
- The label shows a password, but it does not work
- The label password is only the default. If someone changed it, you will need to reset the router. See the reset guide.
- The router came from my ISP
- The ISP can tell you the model, and may use a custom login. Their help pages list it. See the Indian ISP list or the brand pages.
- I do not know the login address
- The router’s address is your computer’s default gateway. The router IP finder shows how to read it on Windows, Mac, Linux and phones.
Questions people ask about Find your router model
- Is the model number the same as the serial number?
- No. The model says what type of router it is. The serial number identifies your one unit.
- Is it safe to share the model number?
- Yes. Do not share the Wi-Fi password, admin password or serial number.
