How to log in to your BSNL router
- Connect to the BSNL modem by Wi-Fi or cable.
- Open http://192.168.1.1. If it fails, try http://192.168.1.254.
- Enter the username and password from the label. The username is usually admin.
- Open the Wi-Fi settings (often under WLAN, then Basic), change the name and password, and save.
- Do not reset the modem unless you have your broadband username and password.
If it will not open
- Do not reset a DSL modem blindly
- On many BSNL DSL modems a reset removes the broadband (PPPoE) username and password and other line settings. Ask BSNL for them, or write them down first.
- The password from the label is rejected
- The technician may have set another one. Ask BSNL, or reset only after you have your broadband details.
- The wrong IP
- Some units use 192.168.1.254. Use the router IP finder to confirm.
- A search page opens instead of the router
- Type http:// before the address, and type it in the address bar, not the search box.
- The browser warns “not secure”
- Many routers use plain http or a self-signed certificate, so the warning is normal on your own router. Do not click through it on public Wi-Fi.
- Wrong username or password
- The admin password is not your Wi-Fi password. Check the router label. If you changed it and forgot it, see the reset guide.
- The page loads forever
- A VPN, a proxy or a second router in between can block it. Turn off the VPN and try a LAN cable. If you put your own router behind the ISP one, the ISP router has a different address from your own.
How to keep your router secure
- Change the default admin password and use a long one that you do not use anywhere else.
- Keep the router firmware up to date.
- Turn off remote management unless you really need it.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 for Wi-Fi.
