Router login and IP address help

Find your router’s address, log in, change the Wi-Fi password and fix pages that will not open. Start with finding your router IP address.

A router has an address you type in your browser, a username and a password. When one of the three is wrong, the page will not open or will not let you in. These pages cover the usual causes, brand by brand, and say where the facts come from: the manufacturer or provider when they publish it, and the label on your own device when they do not.

Start here

  1. Connect to the router by Wi-Fi or a cable. The admin page opens only from inside your own network.
  2. Find the address. It is usually printed on the label, or you can find the router IP address from your computer. The most common ones are 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 and 10.0.0.1.
  3. Type it in the address bar, not the search box, then sign in with the details on the label.
  4. If it fails, read why the login page does not open before you reset anything.

Is the Wi-Fi password the same as the admin password?

No. The Wi-Fi password connects your devices. The admin password opens the settings page. Many providers also manage the router for you, so some settings are changed in the provider’s app instead. A modem and a router are often separate boxes with different addresses, and the page for your brand says which is which.
