How to log in to your TP-Link router
- Connect to the TP-Link network by Wi-Fi or cable.
- Open tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1 in Chrome, Firefox or Edge.
- If the browser warns about the certificate, choose Advanced and continue. TP-Link uses a self-signed certificate.
- Log in with your local password. If you linked the router to a TP-Link ID, sign in with that account instead.
- Open Wireless to change the Wi-Fi name and password, then save.
If it will not open
- Certificate warning
- The warning appears because the router’s certificate is self-signed, not issued by a public authority. It is normal on your own router.
- tplinkwifi.net shows an error
- Use http://192.168.0.1 instead, or http://192.168.1.1 for a modem-router.
- I forgot the local password
- Use the TP-Link ID if one is linked. Otherwise a factory reset is needed. See the reset guide.
- A search page opens instead of the router
- Type http:// before the address, and type it in the address bar, not the search box.
- The browser warns “not secure”
- Many routers use plain http or a self-signed certificate, so the warning is normal on your own router. Do not click through it on public Wi-Fi.
- Wrong username or password
- The admin password is not your Wi-Fi password. Check the router label. If you changed it and forgot it, see the reset guide.
- The page loads forever
- A VPN, a proxy or a second router in between can block it. Turn off the VPN and try a LAN cable. If you put your own router behind the ISP one, the ISP router has a different address from your own.
How to keep your router secure
- Change the default admin password and use a long one that you do not use anywhere else.
- Keep the router firmware up to date.
- Turn off remote management unless you really need it.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 for Wi-Fi.
