- Enter the router’s admin username and password. They are usually on a sticker on the router, or you chose them during first setup.

- Log out when you are done. If you still use the default admin password, change it now.

| Router or ISP | Address or name | Username | Password |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xfinity gateway (older) | 10.0.0.1 | admin | password |

Newer gateways ship with a unique password. Use the label, or the Xfinity app.
If 10.0.0.1 will not open
- 10.0.0.1 does not open
- Turn on Admin Tool online access in the Xfinity app first. See the Xfinity page.
- Xfinity: the page will not open
- Type http://10.0.0.1 with the http:// prefix, or manage the gateway from the Xfinity app instead.
- The page does not open
- Check that you are on this router’s network, not mobile data or another Wi-Fi. Then confirm the address with the router IP finder, because your router may not use 10.0.0.1.
- A search page opens instead of the router
- Type http:// before the address, and type it in the address bar, not the search box.
- The browser warns “not secure”
- Many routers use plain http or a self-signed certificate, so the warning is normal on your own router. Do not click through it on public Wi-Fi.
- Wrong username or password
- The admin password is not your Wi-Fi password. Check the router label. If you changed it and forgot it, see the reset guide.
- The page loads forever
- A VPN, a proxy or a second router in between can block it. Turn off the VPN and try a LAN cable. If you put your own router behind the ISP one, the ISP router has a different address from your own.
How to keep your router secure
- Change the default admin password and use a long one that you do not use anywhere else.
- Keep the router firmware up to date.
- Turn off remote management unless you really need it.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 for Wi-Fi.
Questions people ask about 10.0.0.1
- Why do some routers use 10.0.0.1 and others 192.168.x.x?
