If 192.168.0.1 will not open
- TP-Link: certificate warning
- TP-Link’s web page uses a self-signed certificate. Click Advanced and continue to tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1.
- TP-Link: login asks for a TP-Link ID
- If you linked the router to a TP-Link ID, log in with that account instead of the local password.
- The page does not open
- Check that you are on this router’s network, not mobile data or another Wi-Fi. Then confirm the address with the router IP finder, because your router may not use 192.168.0.1.
- A search page opens instead of the router
- Type http:// before the address, and type it in the address bar, not the search box.
- The browser warns “not secure”
- Many routers use plain http or a self-signed certificate, so the warning is normal on your own router. Do not click through it on public Wi-Fi.
- Wrong username or password
- The admin password is not your Wi-Fi password. Check the router label. If you changed it and forgot it, see the reset guide.
- The page loads forever
- A VPN, a proxy or a second router in between can block it. Turn off the VPN and try a LAN cable. If you put your own router behind the ISP one, the ISP router has a different address from your own.
- Virgin Media or Sky Hub
- See the Virgin Media and Sky pages.
How to keep your router secure
- Change the default admin password and use a long one that you do not use anywhere else.
- Keep the router firmware up to date.
- Turn off remote management unless you really need it.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3 for Wi-Fi.
