Text Diff Checker: Compare Two Texts and See the Differences Online
Compare two texts or files line by line and see what was added, removed or changed, with changed words highlighted. Side-by-side or one column.
Paste the original on the left and the changed text on the right. Added lines are green, removed lines are red, and the exact changed words inside a line are highlighted. You can ignore case or spaces, hide unchanged lines and copy the result as a unified diff.
What it does
- Finds the smallest set of line changes between two texts.
- Highlights the changed words inside a changed line.

- Spots blocks of lines that were moved rather than rewritten, and shows them in blue instead of as a removal plus an addition.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the comparison exact?
- Yes. It uses the Myers algorithm, which finds a shortest list of added and removed lines. Moved blocks show as a removal and an addition.
- How large a text can I compare?
- Up to 40,000 lines in total. Very long lines are shown without word highlights.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Both texts stay in your browser.
- Why does it say the texts are the same?
- Line endings (Windows or Unix) and one final blank line are ignored. Tick or untick the case and spaces options to change what counts as a difference.
- Does it detect moved lines?
- Yes. When the same lines are removed in one place and added in another, they are shown in blue as moved, and counted separately. The match is on whole lines: a moved line that was also edited shows as removed and added. Single short lines such as } are not counted as moves.
