URL Encode and Decode Online: Percent Encoding
Encode text for use in a URL or decode percent-encoded text such as %20 and %26.
Choose Encode to turn spaces and special characters into percent codes, or Decode to turn them back. Use "whole URL" for a full address and "part" for a single value such as a query parameter.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between part and whole URL?
- A single value (a query parameter) must have characters like ? & = / encoded. A whole address must keep them so it still works.
- Why do spaces become %20 or +?
- %20 is the standard percent code for a space. A plus sign stands for a space only in form data and query strings.
- Why does decoding fail?
- A % must be followed by two hex digits. A lone % or a broken code makes the text invalid.
